Rioja 100 Anniversary Celebration Saturday, May 24 10.00am
Join us to celebrate the 1925-2025 anniversary of this fascinating wine region.
This 2.0-hour Master Class and Tasting is dedicated exclusively to the wines of Rioja and to celebrate the region’s 100 year anniversary.
Rioja is one of the longest established and most highly reputed wine regions in Spain. The over 65,000 planted hectares are located in the north of Spain and Rioja represents over 40% of Spanish quality wine production in the Spanish domestic market, and over 30% of all the exported Spanish wine abroad. There are only two DOCa top quality wine regions in Spain, Rioja being the first one, since 1991, because it follows more strict requirements and quality controls. Along with all of this history and tradition, there are now new trends, including care of the environment and cutting-edge architecture.
Due to market demand, the Consejo Regulador has created new indication of origin labels to be discussed in this class. The region is also seeing more modern wines, helped by new technologies and winemaking techniques, which has been reflected in fresher styles. There is also a movement towards more monovarietal wines compared to the traditional red blends, and new trends in the international wine market have made it necessary to modernize the regulations for red, white, sparkling and rosé wines . We will also taste some of the more iconic traditional wineries, which now celebrate over 100 years of history.
Join Monica Marin, DipWSET, WSET & WSG Director of Education Programs, Certified Rioja Wine Educator and Spanish native, for this in-depth level seminar covering all there is to know about the fascinating wines of Rioja.
The class will emphasize the wide range of styles from Rioja developed in its over 100 year history, and will be illustrated by tasting 10 wines with expert tasting guidance.
Where and time : 10am-12.30pm Saturday 05/24 - Teleferic Brentwood Merkat Private area
